Goals from Paul Ryan and Aidan Roche help Dubs Stars defeat Dublin

Plenty of familiar names to the fore in annual challenge game

Dubs Stars 2-13 Dublin 0-13

Second-half goals from Paul Ryan and Aidan Roche helped the Dubs Stars register a deserved six point win over Dublin in their annual Dublin Bus/Herald Dubs Stars challenge match on the Monastery Road, Clondalkin on Tuesday evening.

In a tight opening, Dublin managed to eke out an early lead through a brace of scores from the lively Martin Quilty but the Dubs Stars remained in contention with midfield duo Niall McMorrow and Johnny McCaffrey chipping in with a point apiece.

Inched ahead
Trailing by 0-8 to 0-7 at the interval, the Dubs Stars inched ahead early in the second half through a trademark free by Ryan although Dublin substitute Eamonn Dillon impressed upon his introduction, scoring two points from play.

However, his contribution proved in vain as Lucan Sarsfields' Aidan Roche found the net in the 48th minute as the Dubs Stars finished confidently through scores by Ryan and captain Conal Keaney.
