Cork forward Patrick Horgan will be eligible to face Kilkenny in the All-Ireland quarter-final after his appeal against a red card received in the Munster hurling final was upheld.

Horgan was dismissed on the stroke of half-time before Cork slumped to defeat to Limerick in Thurles on Sunday.

The sending-off by referee James McGrath caused controversy as the connection between Horgan’s hurl and the head of Limerick’s Paudie O’Brien looked accidental.

The rules on the matter are clear, however, and state that striking around the head is punishable by a red card. Horgan walked and was then given a one-match ban.

However, he and the Cork board have now seen that overturned by the Central Hearings Committee (CHC) and the net result is the Glen Rovers man will once again be available for selection to face the Cats in Thurles in eight days' time.
