Cian Lynch to miss remainder of Munster championship through injury

Limerick GAA have confirmed that Hurler of the Year Cian Lynch will miss the remainder of the Munster championship. He sustained a hamstring injury last weekend in the early stages of Saturday’s provincial second round defeat of Waterford.

His 10th-minute departure meant that the All-Ireland champions were short four All Stars in their attack: Peter Casey, who injured his cruciate in last year’s All-Ireland final, Séamus Flanagan, kept out of the first two championship matches with a hand injury and Kyle Hayes, whose successful switch from wing back to full forward was blighted by a hamstring pull in the defeat of Cork.

There was no indication of when Lynch might return nor any update on the other injuries.

“On Saturday evening last Cian sustained a hamstring injury and will now undergo a period of rehabilitation under the supervision of our medical team. As a result, Cian will not have any further involvement in this year’s Munster hurling championship.

“No further comment will be made regarding Cian’s injury at this time. We wish Cian a very speedy recovery and look forward to seeing him back playing again in the very near future.”

The Munster hurling final takes place on June 5th and the All-Ireland semi-finals on the weekend of July 2nd and 3rd.
