Gormley and McMahon return to Tyrone panel

Two former All Stars on the bench for trip to Cork in top of the table encounter

Tyrone manager Mickey Harte welcomes onto the panel back two former All Star defenders for Sunday’s trip to take on league leaders Cork.

Conor Gormley and Justin McMahon are named for the first time this season on the bench, as the penultimate round takes place this weekend with the scramble for semi-finals places intensifying.

There are two changes to the side that accounted for Westmeath. Tiernan McCann and Darren McCurry, who was being rested ahead of the Ulster Under-21 championship two weeks ago, come in, in place of Conor Clarke and Conan Grugan.

Tyrone are a point behind Cork and could take over at the top should they win. Harte's team hasn't qualified for the Division One play-off stages of the league since 2005 when they lost to Wexford in the semi-finals.

Derry change
Elsewhere, Derry manager Brian McIver makes just one change for the visit of Kildare. Gareth McKinless comes in at corner back in place of Mark Craig. Having beaten Dublin two weeks ago, Derry are currently second in the table and set fair for the semi-finals but Jason Ryan's Kildare desperately need the win to help avoid relegation.

Mayo bring in Tom Cunniffe and captain Andy Moran for tomorrow evening’s re-run of last year’s All-Ireland final against Dublin in Croke Park. It will be Cunniffe’s second trip to the headquarters venue to take on Dublin opposition in a fortnight, having played for Castlebar in the All-Ireland club final defeat by St Vincent’s.

With the counties locked together on six points and identical scoring difference (plus seven), the match will have a vital bearing on who reaches the semi-finals.

Meanwhile Cork hurling manager Jimmy Barry-Murphy has made six changes to the team that secured promotion to Division One A last weekend for the league quarter-final in Thurles against Tipperary.

In a completely changed full-back line, dual player and former under-21 football captain Damien Cahalane makes his first start of the season at corner back, as does Midleton’s Killian Burke in the other corner and Eoin Keane comes in at full back in place of Killian Murphy, Shane O’Neill and Stephen McDonnell.

William Egan returns at wing back after academic commitments ruled him out the last day. Paul Haughney starts at centre-field with captain Patrick Cronin moving to wing forward. Jamie Coughlan comes in at corner forward. Stephen White and Brian Hartnett revert to the bench and Stephen Moylan is out injured.

Tipperary will not be releasing a team until tomorrow lunch-time.
