Wexford beat Kilkenny by 70 points in minor mismatch

Wexford ran out winners on an incredible scoreline of 17-20 to 0-1 against Kilkenny at Nowlan Park in the opening round of the Leinster minor football championship. The remarkable result amounted to a 70-point defeat and has placed a question mark over the county’s involvement at the grade having just regained their championship status.

Wexford led by 6-13 to 0-0 at half-time and added an incredible 11-7 after the break.

Dublin overcome Offaly by a double scores 2-14 to 1-7 margin at Parnell Park thanks to goals from Aaron Bradshaw and Seán Bugler.

Dublin, managed by former senior full back Paddy Christie, scored both goals in the second half having led by 0-8 to 0-3 at half-time.

Bradshaw's goal in the 33rd minute put Dublin well clear though Michael Mooney clawed back a goal for Offaly at the three-quarter stage.

Points from Conor Lynam and Shane O'Brien left just five between the sides but Bugler's 52nd-minute goal from a penalty was the game's decisive score.

Meath came from behind in Portlaoise to run out 0-11 to 1-6 victors against Laois.

James Kelly's goal separated the sides at half-time when Laois led by 1-3 to 0-3 but Meath dominated the second half and late points from free-taker Jason Scully were crucial. Reigning champions Kildare, the reigning champions, were at their ease in Aughrim where they saw off hosts Wicklow by 2-16 to 0-7, building on a four-point half-time advantage.

Louth had six points to spare on Carlow in a 1-14 to 1-8 win. Sam Mulroy netted early on for Louth who led by 1-8 to 0-2 at the break.

Dylan Carroll, James Maxwell and Daniel Reid all hit the net for Westmeath who beat Longford by 3-9 to 0-12.

Carroll and Maxwell’s first-half goals put the Lake County 2-2 to 0-5 clear at the half-time interval and Reid added their third major after the break.
