Former captain suffered nose and eye injuries in training accident

You’ve heard plenty of players say they’d run through a brick wall to make the team.

Well Kerry’s Darran O’Sullivan inadvertently attempted to run through a closed metal gate during training ahead of last Sunday’s All-Ireland final victory over Donegal

The build-up to the Croke Park decider saw the story of an alleged Donegal spy falling from a tree at Fitzgerald Stadium in Killarney occupy minds.

And if any report did make its way back to Donegal boss Jim McGuinness, it certainly would have included the levels of intensity on show, with O’Sullivan suffering a sickening blow to the head in a clash with a metal door in a pitchside fence while contesting for a ball during one training session.

The former Kerry captain was sporting the battle scars in Sunday’s game and released a video on his Instagram account on Wednesday as to how he picked up the injuries to his nose and eye .

He joked that in “testing the hamstrings last week, forgot to check the brakes!”
