Leitrim drop four players for disciplinary reasons

Development is a major disruption ahead of clash with London

Leitrim have dropped four players from the county football panel. Joint managers Barney Breen and George Dugdale took the action for disciplinary reasons.

The news broke on the county’s website where the following statement was published:

“As a result of breaches of discipline that have fallen below the strict code of standards as agreed by team management and players, four panel members have been excluded from the Leitrim Senior Football panel.

“There will be no further comment issued by Leitrim GAA on this matter.”

The four players are named in the Leitrim Observer as Ballinamore's Wayne McKeon and Shane Moran and the Beirne brothers, Tomás and Conor, from Eslin. McKeon and Tomás Beirne started the recent Connacht first round victory over New York.

The development is a major disruption for the team with the provincial semi-final against London, surprise winners over Sligo last weekend, taking place in three weeks’ time.

The GAA announced today that Alan Milton has been appointed head of media relations. The new role sees him responsible for managing the association's media activity. Milton, formerly a journalist, has been GAA communications manager for the past four years since joining the Croke Park staff.
