With the exception of a handful of long-term absentees, Dublin have no injury worries to report ahead of Sunday's All Ireland semi-final against Donegal.
Ger Brennan was hoping to be in contention but he has suffered a further set-back on an ankle injury and if he is to play at all this year, he will need Dublin to reach the final.
“Our injury status is good,” said Gavin at this morning’s press briefing. “We’ve a resilient bunch and the medical team has done a great job so all players are fit and healthy.
“Ger Brennan unfortunately won’t be available for selection this weekend. He had a little bit of a setback last week. It won’t be too long before he’s back in training again. Other than that, Kevin [O’Brien] and Ciaran [Kilkenny] are still progressing very well [rehabbing cruciate injuries] so it’s a clean bill of health.”
Brennan hasn’t played for Dublin since last year’s All Ireland final win. He missed most of the league through his involvement with St Vincent’s run to the club All Ireland and has since been rehabbing a leg injury that most likely would have been dealt with over the winter were it not for his club commitments. Since then, it’s been a frustrating summer for the long-time Dublin centre-back.
“He just irritated his ankle again unfortunately,” said Gavin. “He was back kicking football with us, he was back playing and he just irritated it again so it has been on ice for the last couple of days.”
As to whether or not Brennan would be available for the final should Dublin get there, Gavin pulled down the shutters on even speculating. “We’re just taking one game at a time. We’re not looking beyond the challenge we have on Sunday and unfortunately he’s going to miss selection for that game.”
