Kerry won their third Munster minor championship in a row with victory over Tipperary at Fitzgerald Stadium Killarney. With Conor Geaney in fantastic form, the game was decided by two Kerry goals in the first half. Tipperary had no answers and never looked like troubling the Kingdom.

Kerry were the better side in the opening quarter. Marc O’Connor and Andrew Barry won plenty of ball at midfield and despite Tipperary funnelling numbers back to defend, Kerry were able to build a healthy lead.

The home side struck for their opening goal in the 9th minute, when Michael Foley and Stephen O’Sullivan worked the ball across the goal for Geaney to finish to the net.

Tipperary captain Danny Owens drove forward and scored a fine point for Tipperary but they were unable to penetrate a tigerish Kerry defence. Then after Aidan Buckley kicked another Tipperary point, Kerry struck for the killer goal in the 14th minute.

Andrew Barry fed Cormac Linanne, who outstripped his marker and shot low to the net to give his side a 2-5 to 0-3 lead by the 16th minute.

Buckley got a goal back for Tipp in the second half but it wasn’t enough to trouble Kerry. Wing-back Gavin White registered a superb point and another from substitute Ronan Buckley left them nine ahead.

Geaney finished as he began, kicking three points from play in the remaining minutes.
