Árdscoil Rís back in Harty Cup final after beating Hamilton High School

Good Counsel edge out Patrician Brothers in Leinster Schools SF championship

Árdscoil Rís are back in the Dr Harty Cup final after defeating Hamilton High School of Bandon by 2-14 to 1-4 in Mallow on Saturday.

The 2010 and 2011 champions must wait to find out who their opponents will be, however, as the other semi-final between St Francis College, Rochestown, and Scoil na Tríonóide, Doon, fell foul of the weather.

Árdscoil Rís led by 1-7 to 0-2 at half-time, with the goal coming in the ninth minute from Colin Crehan.

Hamilton had the wind advantage in the second half but were unable to breach the Limerick rearguard, apart from a goaled free by Michael Cahalane, who was responsible for all his side's scores.

Ronan Lynch exceeded that tally on his own, with 1-9 and when his 65 squirmed over the Bandon line in the 43rd minute the game was over.

It was a much more competitive affair in the Curragh, as Good Counsel edged out Patrician Brothers, Newbridge, by 1-8 to 0-9 in the second round of the Leinster Schools' PP SF 'A' championship.

The winners conceded the opening two points but they rallied to hit the next goal and four points, the goal coming in the 15th minute through Aaron Diskan.

Magnificent throughout
Ben McCormack was magnificent throughout for the Newbridge boys, scoring four points from play to go with three from frees, and his successful place kick left the Patricians trailing by just four points at the break

Good Counsel made little of the wind to forge six clear but then, with McCormack on fire, PBS scored the next five points. Jon Reville emerged as the hero, diving full-length to tip Ryan King’s shot around the post in injury-time.
