All-Ireland SFC qualifiers: Croke Park to host double-header

Down face Monaghan once again, beaten Leinster finalists Kildare to face Armagh

Down and Monaghan will face each other once again in Round 4B of the All-Ireland SFC qualifiers.

That fixture will be the first leg of a Croke Park double-header at 5.0pm, preceding Kildare’s clash with Armagh at 7.0pm.

Down produced a surprise result to beat Monaghan 1-14 to 0-15 in the semi-finals of the Ulster championship.

They went on to lose Sunday’s Ulster final to Tyrone, with Mickey Harte’s side running out comfortable 2-17 to 0-15 winners in Clones.

Monaghan meanwhile flirted with disaster at Cullen Park, before a late flurry of points saw them edge past a dogged Carlow 1-12 to 1-7 and avoid an infamous defeat.

In the draw’s other tie beaten Leinster finallists Kildare will take on Armagh.

The Lilywhites were far from disgraced by Dublin in Croke Park but were ultimately well beaten, losing 2-23 to 1-17 in Sunday’s final.

And they will face an Armagh side who edged a close encounter with Tipperary on Saturday, winning 1-17 to 1-15 in Semple Stadium.

Both fixtures will take place on Saturday July 29th.
