Damien Fitzhenry to take full-time role with Wexford backroom team

Having helped out on an irregular basis with the Wexford squad this year, Damien Fitzhenry will take up a full-time role as part of Liam Dunne's backroom team for the 2015 championship.

All Ireland-winning goalkeeper Fitzhenry will replace Tomás Codd as a selector under Dunne - he had previously been doing some occasional coaching with the Wexford goalkeepers.

“I have announced to the players that Damien is coming on board as a selector,” said Dunne. “His experience should prove invaluable to the set-up. Tomás will still be part of the backroom scene as a video analyst but will not have any input into team selection.”He has more than 2000 acres to farm and was unable to give the time required now at intercounty level. He made a major contribution as a selector during his time.”

Meanwhile, the semi-final draw has taken place in the Kilkenny county championship, to take place in Nowlan Park this coming Sunday. Ballyhale Shamrocks will play St Martins at 1.15, with the second semi-final a repeat of last year’s final between Carrickshock and holders Clara. Throw-in for the second game is at 3.00.

Also on Sunday, the replay of the Kerry county final will go ahead in Killarney after a decision was taken at the county's CCC meeting last night. Austin Stacks and Mid Kerry played out a frenetic 1-13 to 2-10 draw in Austin Stack Park but the replay will now move to Fitzgerald Stadium.

Finally, Gusserane O’Rahillys will have a chance to bring a 39-year famine to an end in the Wexford football final after they won their semi-final against Castletown yesterday by 2-9 to 1-4.

TheY overcame the loss of their centre-back Paul Wall who was black-carded after just 90 seconds to run out comfortable winners. They will meet the winners of St Anne's v Shemaliers in the final, although that game won't take place for a number of weeks due to both sides' involvement in the county hurling championship.
