Aongus Tierney in at corner back for Galway against Sligo

Galway make one change to the team that beat London by 19 points in last month's Connacht quarter-final for tomorrow evening's football semi-final against Sligo. Aongus Tierney comes in at corner back in place of Johnny Duane, who was last week dropped from the panel for what was described as "internal reasons".

The match in Markievicz Park will be the fourth meeting between the counties in five championships and Galway have won none of those to date.

As expected Cork have left their three dual players on the bench for tomorrow evening's GAA Munster football semi-final in Páirc Uí Chaoimh against Tipperary, which will be Brian Cuthbert the Cork football manager's first championship match in charge.

Aidan Walsh, Damien Cahalane and Eoin Cadogan are all kept in reserve for the first meeting of the counties in seven years, when Cork were runaway, 14-point winners.

It is, however, an experienced line-up with just Noel Galvin making his debut. Donncha O’Connor, Kevin Crowley and Brian O’Driscoll were not considered due to injury.

It’s all of 70 years since Tipperary won this fixture after which they went on to lose the final to Kerry. Twelve years ago the Munster final between the counties went to a replay, won by Cork in controversy over their introduction of an additional replacement in the drawn match..

Groin injury

Kilkenny and Galway are expected to name their teams tonight for Sunday's Leinster hurling semi-final in Tullamore. Galway will be missing long-term absentees Cyril Donnellan, with a groin injury, and Niall Healy, who injured a cruciate ligament in a club match last month.

Kilkenny will have Henry Shefflin and Richie Power back available after missing the Offaly match with injury.

Finally three-time Galway All-Ireland winner and former manager Noel Lane has lamented the county’s lack of consistency. “I’m expecting a big performance but it’s a pity that we’re hanging on for a big performance every year. It’s not good enough. There’s an acceptance that one good performance and win will lift the doom and gloom but we have to get consistency in our game and have high performances every day.

“We have to be capable of beating any of the top teams or stringing three in a row to win the All-Ireland.”
