Former Tyrone midfielder and Antrim manager Jody Gormley passed away tonight at the age of 53.

He revealed last month that he had been diagnosed with terminal cancer, stating that he had “no fear of dying’”.

Mr Gormley managed Trillick to the Tyrone county championship title last year, and led the team to his year’s final, which was played just six weeks ago.

It was in the immediate aftermath of that defeat to Errigal Ciaran that he informed the Trillick players that he was suffering from terminal liver cancer.

He played at midfield on the Tyrone team which reached the All-Ireland final in 1995, losing narrowly to Dublin.

His death was announced on social media by his brother Damian, who said: “It is with profound sadness that I announce my brother Jody passed away peacefully this evening”.

He is survived by his wife and two children.
