Fabien Barthez has revealed he joined Manchester United after speaking to his old friend Eric Cantona.

Cantona told Barthez he would have a fabulous time at United and so far the £7.8 million goalkeeper insists he was right.

"He is a very good friend but he didn't try to offer me any particular advice about coming here," said Barthez. "He simply told me `you will spend six fantastic years there - have a good time'. And that is my plan."
