Dublin visitors Bohemians recorded their fourth win from six starts in this season's National League Premier Division campaign, when they defeated Galway United at Teryland Park, before a crowd of 1,000 last night.
Bohemians dominated the first half and had their first chance to score after four minutes when Jamie Harris had a chance; but Galway United's keeper, Eddie Hickey, was alert.
Bohemians scored after 25 minutes when the Trinidad and Tobago international Avery John hit the perfect free kick on the righthand side which was met by the in-rushing Glen Crowe who guided the ball to the net from close range.
Two minutes later Harris hit a 28-yard shot which seemed destined for the United goal, such was its power; but it glanced off the crossbar.
Galway United started the second half with a true sense of vengeance and went in search of an equaliser. On 53 minutes Luther Watson set up Barbadian Eric Lavine, who was just foiled at the righthand post by goalkeeper, Wayne Russell.
One minute later Galway's Dave Goldbey had a shot at goal but his effort was parried by Russell only into the path of Galway's skipper Billy Clery who rammed the ball home to level matters.
Bohemians took the lead again against the run of play after 70 minutes when Avery John was deemed to be fouled by Adrian Cregg and from 25 yards from the United goal, Paul Byrne whacked the ball into the righthand corner passed the outstretched Hickey.
