Ulster are dismantled
Leinster under-19 schools 22, Ulster under-19 0: Leinster Schools methodically dismantled Ulster with an attractive mix of powerhouse forward play and silky running in the Interprovincial Championship on the main pitch at Donnybrook yesterday.
Leinster started brightly, with right wing John Verling almost making the breakthrough twice. It was left to outhalf Darragh Fitzpatrick to open the scoring from a simple 12th minute penalty.
The home side were the more creative in attack, but, they came up against a resilient Ulster defence until hooker Jason Harris-Wright crashed over from a forward surge near the half-hour mark. Fitzpatrick added the extras for a 10-0 interval advantage.
The visitors were caught cold minutes into the new period when Conor Cleary sliced though their midfield and left his centre partner, Shane Rogers, with a clear run to the line. Fitzpatrick kicked the conversion.
The multiple replacements did nothing for the flow of the match. One of them, Leslie Copeland, took advantage of diminishing numbers out wide to finish an injury-time try.
