South Kerry 0-7 St Kieran's 0-6: South Kerry triumphed thanks to a last-gasp winning point from Kerry senior star Declan O'Sullivan at Austin Stack Park Tralee, yesterday. The conditions hardly excused the poor play as South Kerry amassed 11 wides while St Kieran's had nine. South Kerry can also thank veteran Maurice Fitzgerald as he kicked two superb second-half points.
South Kerry opened their account in the 18th minute when Brian Sheehan pointed from a free. Kevin Lynch scored a fine point on the turn after a long delivery by O'Sullivan.
In the 22nd minute St Kieran's took advantage of a weak South Kerry clearance. Martin Horgan put Jack Dennehy clear and with only goalkeeper Mark Drummond to beat he blazed the ball high and wide. Declan O'Sullivan pointed in the 26th minute but Lynch closed the first-half scoring with a free as St Kieran's led 0-4 to 0-2.
The second half brought little improvement in the standard of play as both sides kicked poor wides. Points from Brian Sheehan and a superb long-range effort from Fitzgerald levelled the scoring by the 38th minute.
Flor McAuliffe and Sheehan swapped points and the sides were deadlocked at 0-6. South Kerry grabbed the winning point in the final minute with a Declan O'Sullivan point.
