We've heard some strange reasons for players missing games in our time (most of them provided by Stan Collymore), but Ali Eren's excuse takes the biscuit. On the night before the Besiktas defender was due to line out for his club against Kocaelispor, he felt a bit peckish so ordered kokorec, grilled sheep's intestine, like you do. Some hours later, Eren was rushed to hospital with severe abdominal pains and had his tummy pumped out. His manager, Nevio Scala, wasn't too sympathetic either. "Irresponsible," was how he described poor Eren. Might even have said "ewe plonker", but we're not sure.
