Kieren Fallon's consummate skills helped to ignite Always Alight yesterday - and paved the way for a possible tilt at the Ayr Gold Cup. Fallon, charging irresistibly towards the jockeys' title for the second year in a row, was called up to partner awkward customer Always Alight as regular rider John Egan was suspended.

The champion proceeded to wave his magic wand and Always Alight responded with his first victory since the first week of the turf season.

The gelding was trapped in with two furlongs to travel in the Ayr Flower Show Classified Stakes but Fallon did not let that worry him.

Switched to the outside, Always Alight quickened in great style to seal a one and three-quarters of a length defeat of Stand Tall.
