Doubts about Limerick

No problems are anticipated for this afternoon's Fairyhouse card but it's a less certain picture tomorrow with an 11.00 inspection already planned for Limerick this morning. Parts of the course are waterlogged.

"It's very heavy and the forecast is so up and down that we felt it prudent to have an inspection on Saturday morning," said the Limerick manager Angus Houston yesterday.

"It is supposed to get down to minus five on Friday night but I'm more afraid of Saturday night rather than the next 24 hours. There is rain forecast then," added Houston who admitted to being more hopeful than confident about the meeting getting the go-ahead.

The Punchestown authorities will also examine their course today ahead of tomorrow's meeting which features a pair of Grade Two contests.

"We are perfectly raceable at the moment with the chase ground heavy and it is soft to heavy on the hurdles course," said manager Richie Galway.

"The forecast is mixed and they are currently telling us to expect up to 10mms on Saturday night. I think we will cope with that but if the forecast deteriorates then that would be a concern. We will look at it on Saturday to see if an inspection is needed for Sunday morning."
