Cork IT 0-14 UCD 1-10:SUBSTITUTE EOGHAN Cronin emerged as the Cork IT hero, when his brilliant injury-time point denied 14-man UCD in a closely-fought Fitzgibbon Cup quarter-final at their own grounds yesterday.
The Glen Rovers ace struck at a time the game looked to be heading for extra-time after UCD drew level with three unanswered points.
It was rough justice for the visitors who lost substitute Tommy Fitzgerald to a straight red card just four minutes after coming on, forcing his colleagues to play over half the game with 14 men.
CIT looked in control in the first half with midfielder Adrian Mannix scoring five points in a 0-9 to 0-4 interval lead.
But Keith Hogan’s 43rd-minute goal gave UCD real hope on the resumption and when Maurice Nolan’s injury-time free restored parity it looked set to send the game into over time until Cronin’s late intervention.
