Diarmuid O'Sullivan arrived home yesterday from the All Star hurling trip to Argentina to hear the news that he had been selected on the Cork football team to play Westmeath in Mullingar.

The hurling full back has tried to combine codes for a number of years (he won an All-Ireland junior football medal last year) and has now been called up to man the full-forward position for the senior county team.

Larry Tompkins has secured the services of the Nemo Rangers players for the opening games, although Conrad Murphy is ruled out through injury, while defender Owen Sexton is away and BJ O'Sullivan is suspended.

Donegal will be at close to full strength for the visit of Galway. Goalkeeper Gerard McGill and centre back Barry Monaghan from county champions Four Roads come into the side.

Monaghan's Raymond Ronaghan moves from the forwards to centre back for the home game against Meath. James McElroy, recovered from injury, moves to wing forward, with Eoin Lennon replacing him in midfield.

Roscommon are due to announce their team later today to face Tyrone at Omagh on Sunday. Injury has ruled out team captain Fergal O'Donnell, with back problems, and Frankie Dolan, who is recovering from a shoulder operation. Forward Conor Connelly has also been added to the injury list.

The Longford team to play Carlow has Damien Sheridan in goal in place of the regular Gavin Tonra. Liam Keenan comes into midfield alongside Enda Barden.

All Star hurler Brendan Cummins returns to the Tipperary football team to face Laois on Sunday while the Limerick selectors have left the centre-back berth open for the game against Leitrim, hopeful that Stephen Lucey will opt for the big-ball game this season.
