HOCKEY/Cork C of I 3 Cork Harlequins 1:Cork C of I made it three in-a-row in the Peard Cup yesterday at Harlequins' Farmer's Cross home, comfortably out-doing the reigning Irish Senior Cup champions.

They raced into a three-goal lead and scarcely looked back to take the first major piece of silverware of the Munster hockey calendar.

David Hobbs – in opposition to three of his brothers – created the first when his left-wing cross rebounded off a couple of sticks and was eventually turned by Quins’ defender Jason Black.

Underage international Gary Wilkinson added the second in the 28th minute as Richie Sweetnam and David Harvey neatly worked an opening down the right baseline.

The latter whipped the ball back to Wilkinson who fired home low on his backhand side.

He duly hit the post while Rob Hobbs served a suspension before Andrew Daunt and David Hobbs combined to create the clincher from Stephen Sweetnam.

Quins did rally while the impressive Alec Moffett spent time in the sin-bin. David Eakins hit a post while Black had an effort taken off the line by Harvey before Dave Egner blasted into the top corner but way too late to affect the outcome.
