There was some consolation yesterday for Armagh half back Andrew McCann when he was named winner of the Ulster GAA Writers' Merit Award for August, partly for his display against Kerry in the All-Ireland football semi-final drawn game.

Meanwhile, Offaly's Simon Whelahan has been selected as the Eircell GAA All Star Player of the Month for August.
