BOXING: Kenneth Egan stopped his French opponent, Mamadou Diambang, yesterday in the third round of the European Senior Championships in Plovdiv, Bulgaria.

The Neilstown man won on the 20-point rule, 36-16, and faces the Russian Artur Beterbiev in tomorrow's semi-final.

Twice a world championship quarter-finalist Egan calmly delivered on his great talent. He controlled the fight from the first, flooring the Frenchman, a 2002 European middleweight bronze medallist, at the end of round one.

Egan continued to score heavily with his jab in round two, ending it 28-14 ahead, and took little time in round three to close out the fight.

Earlier the impressive campaign of welterweight Roy Sheahan came to a sudden end in round one of his quarter-final. The Athy man was dropped with a left hook by Khakhaber Jvania of Georgia. He resumed after a standing count, but the referee soon stopped it when Sheahan dropped to one knee following a clinch.
