LYNDA RAMSDEN'S horses always command respect at Pontefract - the Sandhutton trainer has saddled 33 winners at the course in the last five years - and the yard can register a double this evening courtesy of Step N Go and Southerly Wind.

Step N Go was very impressive at Beverley on Tuesday when accounting for Can Can Lady by three and a half lengths, and a 5 lb penalty will not stop her following up the Tote Fillies' Handicap.

And Southerly Wind, a progressive juvenile, ran well on his final start when third, beaten under two lengths behind I Can't Remember in a hot Doncaster nursery.

Just the type to do well at three, Southerly Wind can complete the stable brace and land the nap in the William Hill Handicap.

Captain Carat, without a win for a year, can get back in the winner's circle after the Radcliffe Limited Stakes at Nottingham today.

Formerly trained by Lynda Ramsden, the six-year-old gelding has run well on a number of occasions since joining David Nicholls' Sessay yard at the end of last year.

Most recently over five furlongs at Thirsk, Nicholls' grey was out-paced early but stayed on strongly in the closing stages to finish a never-nearer fourth, beaten three and a half lengths behind Squire Corrie.

With the assistance of Frankie Dettori and an extra furlong, Captain Carat looks the one to be on.

Montfort stands out as the best bet on Brighton's card.

Paul Cole's three-year-old ran well in a decent maiden at Chester on his reappearance when keeping on well under pressure to take third, under five lengths, behind Conon Falls and Solo Mio.

Sure to improve further, Montfort can open his account, albeit at short odds, in the Festival Maiden Stakes.
