THE official partnership between Jack Berry and John Carroll has ended after 13 years.
Carroll, who finished his apprenticeship with the Cockerham trainer, has decided to pursue a freelance career.
Speaking in yesterday's Racing Post, the jockey said: "We are parting company on good terms and Jack will be using me a bit. I just hope it is the right time to go freelance.
"The boss and I have had some good times and I have been with him since 1983, but now Jack is pushing the kids and there are a lot of them now. If I stay I will be digging a deeper hole for myself."
Carroll is currently 13th in the jockeys' table with 62 winners to his credit.
