1. Derek O'Connor (Huddersfield Town)
Played only a handful of games for Huddersfield before moving to non-league football with Bradford Park Avenue and then Frickley Athletic. Currently without a club, but said to be on the verge of joining St Patrick's Athletic.
2. David Worrell (Blackburn Rovers)
Didn't make a breakthrough at Ewood Park and eventually moved to Dundee United where he made 13 league appearances last year. Missed early part of this season through injury and when he returned recently he was farmed out to Plymouth Argyle.
3. Robert Ryan (Huddersfield Town)
Sold by Huddersfield to Millwall for £15,000. A first-team regular at the New Den these days.
4. Colin Hawkins (Coventry City)
One of three of the squad to be signed by St Patrick's Athletic that summer. Went on to win two league medals at Richmond Park, but decided on a move to Doncaster at the end of last season. More often played in central midfield than defence these days.
5. Aidan Lynch (UCD)
Still at Belfield, where he was studying maths and economics at the time of the trip to Malaysia. Has had some difficulties with injuries over the past year but is very much a key member of Martin Moran's squad.
6. Stephen Murphy (Huddersfield Town)
Never got a game at Huddersfield, but played around 30 times for Halifax before being released this summer. Returned to Ireland and signed for Shelbourne from where, after seeing his chances were limited, he headed north to Glenavon. After a month's trial, he was offered but turned down a part-time contract. Currently looking for a club.
7. Niall Inman (Peterborough United)
Now in the last year of his contract at Peterborough and clearly not in the club's plans for the future. After a trial at Rochdale and a loan spell at Doncaster last season, he is currently at Conference club Kettering.
8. John Burns (Nottingham Forest)
Left Forest after just four appearances when Bristol City took him in November 1999 as part of a £1.5 million deal for Canadian international Jim Brennan. Hasn't seen first-team action this season.
9. Michael Cummins (Middlesbrough)
Having spent five years at Middlesbrough, where he made just one start and one appearance from the bench, he moved to Port Vale on loan in March of this year and signed permanently over the summer. Now a regular.
10. Thomas Morgan (Blackburn Rovers)
Signed for St Patrick's Athletic the summer of the championships and was, for a while, a prominent figure in the side. Gradually slipped out of the first team, however, and moved to Newry Town where he is now a regular.
11. Damien Duff (Blackburn Rovers)
Made his name in Malaysia and has done well ever since. The only one of the squad to go on to achieve senior international honours, Duff was in fine form at Ewood Park last season. Has continued to prosper this season.
12. David Whittle (QPR)
Saw out almost all his five-year QPR contract, but finally moved back to Ireland last season when he signed for Waterford United. Now playing regularly for the club where his brother Kevin is also in first-team squad.
13. Alan Kirby (Aston Villa)
Never made any real impact at Villa Park and, like Whittle, returned to Waterford United to play National League football. Currently enjoying a fine season with the club.
14. Neale Fenn (Tottenham Hotspur)
The only member of the squad still to be at a Premiership club, although he could have done with a move by now. Has had loan spells at Lincoln, Swindon, Norwich and Orient.
15. Glen Crowe (Wolves) MADE 11 appearances for Wolves but, like Fenn, then did the rounds. Back in Ireland with Bohemians, he is currently the leading scorer in the Premier Division.
16. Paul Whelan (Oxford United)
Went to Malaysia as understudy to Derek O'Connor, but got two chances to play and did well on each occasion. Was released by Oxford the summer of the tournament and signed for Shelbourne, before moving on to Home Farm-Fingal.
17. Dessie Baker (Shelbourne)
Played in all but one of the games and scored the opening goal against Ghana. Afterwards he returned to Shelbourne, where he has sometimes struggled to hold down a place in the first team. He has scored three times in the club's last five games, however.
18. Trevor Molloy (Athlone Town)
Signed for St Patrick's Athletic that summer and won two championship medals at Richmond Park. Left during the summer for Bohemians in what was reckoned to be, at around £40,000, the largest transfer deal in National League history.
