Donegal SFC final/Ardarra 1-9 Sean MacCumhaills 0-4: The Donegal senior football final was a one-sided affair in Ballybofey yesterday with Ardara the superior team throughout. Even though playing on their home pitch, Sean MacCumhaills never looked like bridging the 27-year gap since their last title.
Ardara made hard work of this game until a goal from Jonathan Boyle 10 minutes from the end settled the issue.
The winners hit 10 wides in the first half and held just a two-point advantage at the break - 0-4 to 0-2. They stretched that to four points early in the second half before MacCumhaills had two frees from Kevin McCormack.
However, in the final quarter Ardara converted their superiority with Boyle's goal and they can also thank a masterful display from midfield duo Brendan Boyle and Kenneth Doherty, who each scored two points.
The overall standard of fare was poor. It could be partially explained by the heavy rain during the curtain-raiser minor final, but the first half was particularly mediocre.
The win is Ardara's sixth time to win the Dr Maguire Cup and captain and county star Damien Diver was among their best players.
