Ulster Youths - 17 Munster Youths - 7|:Ulster opened the defence of their youth interprovincial crown with a deserved win over Munster in an entertaining match at Ravenhill on Saturday.
Ulster combined a dominant first-half display, which saw them accumulate 17 unanswered points, with first-rate defence after the break as Munster took control.
Ulster enjoyed a terrific start, with their powerhouse centre Dale Black bursting through two tackles before linking with James Kirkpatrick, who sent left winger James Allison in for a try in the opening minutes, with Mark Bamford adding the conversion.
Bamford added a penalty and after 30 minutes scrum ball in the Munster 22 was fed out to Black, who ignored an overlap and powered his way to the line, with Bamford adding the points.
It was all Munster after the break but Ulster snuffed out a number of scoring opportunities, before substitute Aidan Floyd scored a late consolation try, which Ian Hanley converted.
