Beegan sets new record

CORMORANT'S Graham Beegan made another successful attempt on an Irish Junior record with a time of 1.00

CORMORANT'S Graham Beegan made another successful attempt on an Irish Junior record with a time of 1.00.11 in the heats of the 100m individual medley at the National Championships at the Guinness Pool yesterday.

That fell within half a second of, Hugh O'Connor's previous best of 1.00.89 meaning that Beegan has now achieved the unique feat of setting new times in the 100, 200, and 400 individual medley disciplines at Junior level.

O'Connor after losing his record then suffered an even worse fate when he was disqualified in the heats of the 200m backstroke, an event won last year by his brother Adrian who is currently in Atlanta.

The final itself was won by Julian Dooley who turned in a great final 50 metres to defeat the fastest qualifier Brian Gibson.
