Hockey Men's: Trinity have finally employed a first team coach four months into the season and having suffered eight league defeats without a win. The college side have hired Arul Anthoni, a former Malaysian international player and assistant coach to their national team, on a three-month contract.
Given the students' start, he will have his work cut out in order to try and maintain Trinity's top flight status. For the last three seasons they have clung on to division one status via relegation play-offs, something they would prefer to avoid this year.
Elsewhere the Leinster Indoor League will take place this weekend at the National Basketball Arena, with Railway Union looking to maintain their position as Ireland's premier indoor team.
Railway will welcome back captain David Jenkins, who missed the side's cup campaign, which was won by a Three Rock Rovers side led by the sprightly veteran Liam Canning.
Avoca, the premier side in the 1980s and 1990s, are also hoping to be in the mix and welcome back Trevor Dagg after a few years with YMCA.
Monkstown and Pembroke are also hoping to make an impact. Monkstown pushed Rovers close in the cup semi-final after a number of seasons away from the boards. Alec Barrett was their star man in the pivot position.
While Pembroke's outdoor squad contains many international players, their adaptation to the more technical indoor game may take time.
The indoor league is more open than previous years, when Avoca and Railway Union dominated and has grown by two teams since last year, with Fingal and Railway Union seconds entering.
The tournament will be divided into two leagues, with the top two sides progressing to Sunday's play-off matches.
The Tony Byrne indoor league final will take place at 6.15pm on Sunday evening.
