Aer Lingus look to stay on course

Hockey/Weekend previews: The Stephen Doyle Cup might not quite be top of the list of the season's most sought after trophies but silverware is silverware so Pembroke Wanderers, Corinthians, Three Rock Rovers and Aer Lingus, last season's top four in the Leinster League, should be keen enough at Serpentine Avenue over the weekend.

If Pembroke are to retain the trophy they won last year, when four goals from Justin Sherriff helped them to a 5-2 win over Corinthian in the final, they will first need to do what they failed to do last week: beat Aer Lingus.

The teams meet in the second of tomorrow's semi-finals, the first appearance for Aer Lingus in the last four of a senior competition.

While Pembroke should be intent on reversing last Saturday's 4-3 defeat Aer Lingus might just fancy their chances of repeating the success, not least because the Leinster champions will be under-strength.

Injury rules out Nigel Henderson and Gordon Elliott while John Jermyn, who scored a hat-trick for Pembroke last week (but still ended up on the losing side), has been given the weekend off. Aer Lingus, in contrast, expect to be at full strength.

Corinthian, meanwhile, must get by Three Rock Rovers in the first of the semi-finals if they are to have a chance of making up for last year's final defeat.
