THE GAA'S Central Competitions Control Committee will meet probably tomorrow to decide when to play Saturday's abandoned Dublin-Monaghan NFL fixture. Next Sunday is considered the most likely date for the refixture.

Dublin have an under-21 match on Saturday but according to Dublin chief executive John Costello, the county is unlikely to object on that basis given the calendar constraints. There was general unhappiness at the decision to call off the match an hour before throw-in.

Costello explained yesterday: "The pitch was inspected during the afternoon and passed fit for play. But between then and six o'clock there was another two hours of heavy rain and the referee (Syl Doyle from Wexford) took the decision to call it off."

Saturday evening is considered unlikely given next weekend is Easter and the clash with vigil ceremonies in Donnycarney church could cause traffic chaos and also a further bone of contention with church authorities.

Meanwhile, Of One Belief, the group opposed to intercounty players benefiting from the proposed Government awards scheme, has indicated in yesterday's newspapers it will probably take a further case to the Disputes Resolution Authority (DRA) to try to force the GAA annual congress to amend Rule 11, governing amateur status, in order to endorse the scheme.

On Friday night the DRA rejected the group's move to amend its original submission but left it open to bring a redrafted version that would specifically seek to have the scheme, expected to be finalised this morning by Central Council, declared in conflict with Rule 11.
