Not only has Dermot Bannon helped scores of Irish homeowners upgrade their home to the comfort and energy efficiency of heat pump technology but, in 2019 he installed one in his own home - a Mitsubishi Electric Ecodan.
He made the decision after surveying plumbers and heating engineers and so happy is he with his decision that in September this year, Mitsubishi Electric Ireland was delighted to announce a new partnership with Dermot, who has become the company’s official brand ambassador.
With Mitsubishi Electric Ireland a leader in energy efficient heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, and Dermot a leader in designing and creating energy efficient homes, it’s a match made in heaven.
But it’s also one that Irish consumers are set to benefit from too, with the launch of Ask Dermot at The Heating Hub, a new platform launched by Mitsubishi Electric where Dermot answers those frequently asked questions consumers have about heat pump systems.

It’s about helping homeowners, installers and businesses across the country to make informed decisions about sustainable heating and ventilation.

Because of his outstanding experience transforming homes across Ireland, Dermot will work with Mitsubishi Electric Ireland to show how energy-efficient heating and ventilation can improve comfort, cut running costs and reduce carbon emissions.
“As an architect, I’ve always believed that great design should enhance the way we live while being kind to the planet,” said Dermot. “That’s why I’m delighted to partner with Mitsubishi Electric Ireland. Their advanced technologies and commitment to sustainability make them the perfect fit for the future of energy-efficient homes.”
Trust that is professional - and personal
Dermot’s trust in the brand is more than professional—it’s personal. Thanks to the installation of a Mitsubishi Electric Ecodan air source heat pump in his own home.
It’s an authentic connection that underpins the partnership and reinforces Dermot’s belief in the brand’s ability to deliver real solutions for Irish homes.
The collaboration will see Bannon front a series of campaigns and educational initiatives designed to highlight how sustainable heating, ventilating and cooling technologies can transform both residential and commercial spaces.
In a mix of video content, events, and digital campaigns, the partnership will also tackle the big questions in the market around heat pumps and home ventilation—from performance in the Irish climate to ease of installation, running costs, and how modern ventilation systems can improve indoor air quality.

“Having lived with an Ecodan heat pump in my own home for several years, I’ve experienced first-hand how it delivers comfort, efficiency, and sustainability. I’m excited to work with Mitsubishi Electric Ireland to help more homeowners understand the benefits of heat pump technology and make informed choices for their homes,” says Dermot.
Strong legacy
Mitsubishi Electric Ireland has been in Ireland for almost 50 years and its Ecodan range is one of Ireland’s top-selling heat pumps.
That’s because it is designed specifically to suit Ireland’s climate, explains Shane Toye, consultant sales engineer for Mitsubishi Electric Ireland.
The company also has an extensive installer base across the country and recently opened an Irish warehouse to meet growing demand.
Its heat pumps come with up to a seven-year warranty, which provides additional peace of mind.
“We have been developing heat pump technology since the 1970s too, so we’re not new to this,” explains Shane, who wasn’t at all surprised when Dermot got in touch to talk about getting an Ecodan for his own home, a 1920s house he was renovating for his family.

“The house was freezing, with an old gas boiler and ice on the inside of the windows in the morning,” recalls Dermot. Since insulating, making the house airtight, installing a ventilation system and a heat pump, he hasn’t thought about heat again, a sure sign of its success.
“It’s a dream to live in the house now. It’s not draughty, it’s not cold, it has a wonderful ambient temperature, and we get infinite amounts of hot water. We never have to hit boost or turn on the immersion, and nothing changes from July to December, the heat pump does it all by itself,” he explains.
He’s now taking that experience, and all his years of expertise making homes more sustainable and bringing it to consumers through Ask Dermot at theheatinghub.ie.
On a mission
“Mitsubishi Electric is committed to supporting Ireland’s transition to low-carbon heating and The Heating Hub is part of that journey — combining technical expertise with homeowner-friendly education,” explains Shane.
“The goal behind The Heating Hub is really to demystify home heating, particularly heat pumps, for primarily homeowners but also installers and designers. We want it to become a central knowledge base for sustainable home heating.”
“We partnered with Dermot Bannon because he’s not only one of Ireland’s leading authorities in home renovation but he actually put in a Mitsubishi Electric Ecodan heat pump into his own home in 2019, which adds to his credibility as not just as trusted voice in home design, but as a homeowner and user of the technology,” he adds.
“The idea is that, together, The Heating Hub will combine Mitsubishi Electric’s technical expertise with Dermot’s ability to inspire and educate, helping the people of Ireland confidently choose sustainable, future-proof heating solutions.
