Kinahan cartel bosses one step closer to a trial date in an Irish courtroom

Will the three gang leaders face justice in Ireland?

Listen | 23:07

In a recent wide-ranging interview in The Irish Times, crime and security editor Conor Lally asked Garda Commissioner Drew Harris if a file on the three Kinahan cartel bosses had been sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions. Harris admitted that it had.

The sensational revelation that the Garda had completed its years-long investigation into Christy Kinahan snr and his sons Daniel Kinahan and Christy Kinahan jnr raises the prospect that the three gang leaders will be brought to justice – in an Irish courtroom. But what are the chances they will be extradited from their safe haven in Dubai? And what charges might the DPP bring?

And while they are out of reach now – they still reach back to Ireland with their drug trade having, as Lally outlines here, developed a franchise system for drug distribution. Presented by Bernice Harrison. Produced by Suzanne Brennan.
