Sir, – I am forced to reconsider my cynicism about the Wild Atlantic Way, a concept I believed was merely a marketing ploy. Following a beautiful few days on Inishbofin with friends, my husband and I followed the Wild Atlantic Way from Cleggan to Lissadell, having picked up as an afterthought a map of the route in a community centre. We discovered places we never knew existed, walked on wild deserted beaches, admired public art in remote areas, read poignant memorials to emigrants, enjoyed seaweed baths, paid tribute to Queen Méadhbh and WB Yeats and stayed in friendly guesthouses. The Way was well signposted; we never once went astray. We are both looking forward to our next mini-Irish break and following the Wild Atlantic Way along a different part of our beautiful western coastline. I hope Ireland’s Ancient East proves as worthwhile for my home county of Kildare. – Yours, etc,
MARY FOLEY,
Leixlip,
Co Kildare.
