When are the Russians coming?

Sir, – The tourism industry's dependence on US tourism, and the damage that might be done if the Americans stop coming, is correctly emphasised in your article "Tourism industry is only a Trump temper tantrum away from disaster" (Business Opinion, September 1st). However, I have travelled extensively in the last few years and the amount of Russian and Chinese tourism elsewhere in Europe, the Middle East and Asia is startlingly high. Yet the Russians and Chinese don't seem to have yet discovered Ireland. We appear to have confined our tourism marketing to continental Europe and the English-speaking world.

Isn’t it time to tap these seemingly infinite tourist markets? And why have we not done so heretofore? – Yours, etc,
