Weights and measures

Sir, – I am in full agreement with your correspondent of September 9th regarding the dropping of the useless, archaic Fahrenheit units of temperature. Can we extend this throughout the newspaper? Metrication in Ireland is as old as I am, yet we still have to suffer miles, feet, inches and stones in your pages – often with the offending archaic units listed first and the rational SI units in an subsidiary position, if given at all. It is the equivalent of quoting every monetary sum in shillings and pence, and unacceptable in this day and age. – Yours, etc,

EOIN KIRWAN,

Clondalkin,

Dublin 22.
