Madam, - Deaglán de Bréadún, discussing the prospects for a 32-county republic, quotes Sir Kenneth Bloomfield, former head of the Northern Ireland civil service: "If and when a majority of the people living in Northern Ireland vote in favour of such a step, legislation will be introduced . . . to transfer the six counties from the one jurisdiction to the other" (Opinion & Analysis, April 10th).
Is he not missing one very important point? Shouldn't the citizens of the Republic be entitled to a vote to decide if they would accept a 32-county state? The result of such a poll might surprise many political correspondents.
- Yours, etc,
BRIAN BROPHY, Skerries, Co Dublin.
