Sir, - With reference to Sally O'Brien's remarks about getting some of the country's more discourteous drivers "up to speed" (August 22nd) I must say that I concur entirely with the sentiments expressed.
As one who regularly suffers delays and frustrations as a result of such discourtesy, I have occasionally pondered the legal implications of causing tail-backs. Surely drivers who proceed along a public road at a snail's pace - oblivious to the fact that their driving manner is depriving the following traffic of the opportunity to make reasonable progress towards its destination - cannot be said to be driving "with due care and attention"?
This being so, the legislation referred to by Ms O'Brien already exists. It only remains for the Gardai to enforce it; a move I feel confident will earn them more gratitude from the motoring public than will the current focus of their attention. - Yours, etc., LIAM COX,
Swords, Co Dublin.
