Sir, – Iseult White ("Transphobic terf or sex traitor?" Opinion, March 17th) claims that "terf" is a slur and is being weaponised against women to silence their voices.
In fact, terf is simply an acronym – it stands for trans exclusionary radical feminist – and generally refers to people who feel that trans rights activism is infringing on women’s rights.
Surely the real cause for alarm here is people who weaponise feminism against one of society’s most vulnerable groups? I am sure many terfs really are concerned about women’s rights issues – but trans women are women too, and true feminism would never exclude them.
There are many, many, many feminists who don’t believe that the basic human rights of others infringe on our own.
