Sir, - I am seeking information about a British merchant cruiser, The Transylvania, which was torpedoed and sunk in the Atlantic on August 14th, 1940. I understand that there were some 300 people rescued while about 30 were lost. Among those lost was one of my uncles, Michael Comiskey.
I would like to hear from anyone connected with the ship. Perhaps some reader heard a relative speaking about the ship, some historian may have come across this disaster in research, or there might even be a survivor reading these columns. If so, I am most interested in hearing from you. - Yours, etc., Gerry Comiskey,
Kinawley, Co Fermanagh, Northern Ireland.
