Madam, - Congratulations on your excellent coverage and very descriptive photographs of the Tour de France, and for the interesting background information on this, one of the world's greatest sporting events. As a senior citizen and one who participated in this sport in my youth I follow your daily reports with great interest.
What a pity that RTÉ does not see this event in the same light. The Tour commenced on July 5th in Paris and it was only on the following day that we received about a 15-second report of the race on the sports programme after the 6 p.m. news.
The Tour de France attracts a world wide audience. Cycle racing has a large following in Ireland particularly since the success of Stephen Roche and Sean Kelly, both of whom are still revered.
There are still almost two weeks to go before the Tour ends in Paris so let us have some coverage of this great event which is regarded as the greatest test of endurance in the world for any sportsman. - Yours, etc.,
