Madam, - Fianna Fáil's newfound caring, touchy-feely outlook and policies have been heralded. Isn't it strange, to say the least, that it took a severe drubbing in the local and European elections for the party's leaders to discover the plight of the less well-off in Irish society and the effect cutbacks (sorry, "adjustments") had on them?
They should be ashamed of themselves. If Charlie McCreevy is the best Minister for Finance that we have ever had, why has he been banished to Brussels? One wonders whether this new concern for the underprivileged would be more accurately described as concern for TDs' seats in the next general election? I hope the electorate won't allow them buy our votes again. - Yours, etc.,
SAM MacCARTHY,
