Too many standing ovations?

Sir, – I agree entirely with Sally Sweeney's comments (October 19th) on the new Irish phenomenon of people slavishly giving standing ovations.

My annoyance at the new habit is mirrored by the resenting stares I receive when I refuse to stand for an average or poor performance. – Yours, etc,
