Madam, – There is a serious disregard by politicians in tackling the problem of the large number of young people leaving this country every day. The Government has lost what little confidence the nation had in it, and young people see no future in Ireland.

Even the opposing political parties that will inevitably form the new government don’t appear to have any innovative ideas to reduce emigration. Young people with trades and third-level education are falling through the gap, resulting in another generation of youth being lost in the “brain drain”.

We all know the severe failings of Fianna Fáil and the effects its mistakes have had on the people of Ireland, but more emphasis must be put on emigration.

I’m a student at college and I feel there is no hope of any future here for me. I have a brother who is leaving to find work in New Zealand in two months. This issue is one that affects families and friends across Ireland.

Is there anyone from Fine Gael and Labour who can stand up and be counted and give me and fellow students hope that there is a future here? The issue can’t be avoided any longer.
