Sir, - Allow me to congratulate you and through you some of the contributors to "Thinking Anew" (The Irish Times, Saturday edition). I find much of what they write inspiring and uplifting. Perhaps criticism such as that which appeared in the meditation "The widow's mite" (November 11th) might better be kept to the letters columns. Some may think it unfair to publish an attack on Catholic bishops, or indeed on any particular person or persons, in an article which does not carry the writer's name.
Incidentally, Christ said the widow in question gave all she had - "She put in everything she possessed, all she had to live on" (Jerusalem Bible, Mark 12.44, Luke 21.4) - not "all she can afford", as M.C. said. - Yours, etc.,
C. T. Greenan, O.P. St. Saviour's Priory, Upper Dorset Street, Dublin 1.
