The wisdom of the donkey

Sir, – Fiach Kelly refers to Shane Ross having compared an Opposition TD to a donkey ("Ross action plan on Brexit mistakenly sent to TD", April 10th).

Unfortunately, references to donkeys have become pejorative in Ireland where the donkey is generally loved and cherished, if somewhat misunderstood.

I respectfully suggest to Mr Ross that he should make himself fully cognisant of the actual qualities of a donkey – dignified, humble, patient and quiet.

Donkeys possess a good deal of wisdom, which is often misinterpreted as stubbornness.
